5 Sept Rehearsal Update

WELCOME BACK!

We had our first rehearsal of the new term last Thursday as we re-launched Choir on the Hill under new management. It was wonderful to see so many of you in spite of the torrential rain!

COFFEE NOTICES

Communications

Over the summer, we've worked hard to set up all of the resources and infrastructure it takes to run our choir. We now have a new email address and website:

Please do let us know if you have any feedback or ideas for the website that would help you and/or any new recruits.

Dates for the diary

The information below will be added to our Calendar and details will be shared on our Performing pages as and when we know more.

SUNDAY 15 Sept: Jam in the Park - Beckenham Place Park.

Free DJ/music and open mic. This may be an opportunity to hand out some COTH leaflets and, if you're brave enough, get up and sing as part of the open mic session. Lizzy will be in touch to organise if anyone is interested.

SATURDAY 2 Nov: Ralph Perring Court

We'll be returning to Ralph Perring Court, a retirement housing complex in Beckenham whose motto is 'Interesting people living life to the full'. The concert will start at 7pm but we'll share more details including rehearsal time and registration details asap.

FRIDAY 20 Dec: Stanley Halls Christmas concert

More details will be shared closer to the time but, like last year, we'll be singing at Stanley Halls again as part of their Christmas show.

GoFundMe Set Up donations update - a big THANK YOU!

Our Treasurer, Angela, gave an update on our fundraising efforts. For our setup costs, we raised a fabulous £559 (after GoFundMe processing fees deducted). This covered the purchase of our website, management tools like Business 365, a registered address and public liability insurance. Thanks to everyone who was so generous with their donations - we couldn't have got off the ground without this.

GoFundMe Running costs

We've re-set our fund to cover additional running costs and have made £57 so far from the bake sale/donations received at the summer workshop on the 31st August. If you'd like to make a donation or share our page, you can do that here.

SONGS

You've Got a Friend

This week we revisited You've Got a Friend by Carole King and James Taylor. We also repeated the exercise from July where we started singing with our backs against the wall - stepping forward individually and in groups as the song builds. You can see a video of when we did this in July in our Gallery.

What's Up?

As well as introducing some new songs, part of our plan this half term is to revisit and rejuvenate some of our old repertoire of songs. First up was What's Up? As Elena, our new Music Director, is a guitar player, we were lucky enough to have musical accompaniment in the way that the song was originally written and performed by Four Non Blondes.

Elena took as back through individual lines in the song to work on dynamics and delivery of words and phrases to bring out the full meaning. We'll work on this more at next week's session.

The plan for this half term

As we've said above, part of our plan for the first half term is to revisit and rejuvenate the songs you voted as your favourite in our recent poll.

We'll also be introducing some new songs along the way.

After the half term break we'll start looking at our Christmas rep - again using the recommendations from the summer poll so watch this space!
