5 Sept Update

HALF TERM (WEEK 1 of 7)

This week you can read about:

  • Rehearsal update.

  • Date for the diary:

    • Saturday 29 November - Maple Road Market, Penge (Anerley Town Hall)

Rehearsal

With some regulars still on holiday, we had a small but perfectly formed gathering for our first rehearsal of the new academic year. As we had 2 ladies joining for a taster session, we started with Jolene - a song familiar to the choir but easy to learn for those new to our group. Our Music Director, Elena, also encouraged us to focus on specific lines to ensure the phrasing, pacing and delivery were on point. As this is a stripped-back song with a simple verse structure and repeating chorus, it's a chance to really highlight the lyrics and 'tell the story'.

Our second song of the evening was Glorious, a beautiful arrangement which we started looking at last term. We focused on the chorus's main melody (sung by the sopranos) as well as the alto harmony. Please note: in the room, we updated the soprano melody section to reflect how many 'oh's are sung. This has now been amended in the version of lyrics in the  Lyric & Audio Library. There have also been a number of 'clipped' sections added to the library so that you can practice specific parts (including the 'oh's) at home.

As a reminder, all of the lyrics and recordings (including any clipped sections) are in our Lyric & Audio Library

DATES FOR THE DIARY

SATURDAY 29th November - Maple Road Market (Penge)

We will be singing at Maple Road Market* which, for the month of November, will be held in Anerley Town Hall. We will be singing 2 slots - most likely the first will be around 12 till 12.20 - then we'll have a 45 min break with the second performance at 13.15 (TBC). Our repertoire will be Christmas songs - list is also TBC (we'll be asking for suggestions at future rehearsals). Depending on the weather, we may be singing indoors or outdoors.

We'll share more information (and a registration form) as soon as we have it.

*The Maple Road Market is a volunteer led independent local market that was originally started in 1921. It stopped trading in 2010 but was brought back with help from the local community and Bromley council. It's held on the last Saturday of each month and features a mix of vendors and activities, ranging from art & craft to kids activities and hot food to health and wellbeing.
